We spent a good chunk of our Edinburgh trip exploring Holyrood Park, and it turned out to be one of the most surprisingly versatile spots in the city. Beyond Arthur’s Seat, the park is packed with incredible trails, hidden corners, and postcard-worthy views. Here are the best walks and viewpoints to check out.

1. Arthur’s Seat Hike
- The most popular trail in the park, leading to the summit of an extinct volcano.
- Takes about 30–45 minutes to reach the top, depending on your pace.
- Offers 360° views over Edinburgh, the Firth of Forth, and beyond.
2. Salisbury Crags Trail
- A more moderate walk than Arthur’s Seat with equally impressive views.
- Great for catching sunrise or sunset without a steep climb.
- The Radical Road remains closed, but paths around the crags are still scenic.
3. St. Margaret’s Loch Loop
- Flat and family-friendly loop around a tranquil loch filled with swans and ducks.
- Ideal for a relaxing stroll or picnic break.
- Good access point to climb toward St. Anthony’s Chapel ruins.
4. Dunsapie Loch to Summit Trail
- A shorter route to Arthur’s Seat starting near Dunsapie Loch.
- Less crowded and easier on the knees compared to the classic steep ascent.
5. Holyrood Park Perimeter Path
- For those who want a full walking circuit of the park.
- Mix of road and trail surfaces, with changing scenery the whole way around.
- Passes by Duddingston Village and its historic pub, The Sheep Heid Inn.
