Our Favorite Moments in Our Cambodia Travel: From Temples to Tuk-Tuks

From sunrise at Angkor Wat to sunset boat rides and unexpected street food finds, these are the moments that made Cambodia unforgettable for us.

Our Favorite Moments in Our Cambodia Travel: From Temples to Tuk-Tuks

Some countries leave you with postcard-perfect photos. Cambodia left us with something deeperโ€”quiet moments, powerful stories, and the kind of beauty that lingers long after you leave. While the temples were everything we imagined, it was the in-between experiencesโ€”the tuk-tuk rides, the shared meals, the smiles from strangersโ€”that truly stayed with us. Here are some of our favorite memories from Cambodia, and why they made such an impact.

Watching Sunrise at Angkor Wat

Itโ€™s iconic for a reason. Standing in the stillness before dawn, watching the towers of Angkor Wat slowly appear in silhouette against the soft glow of the sky, felt almost spiritual. We were surrounded by people, but somehow it felt intimateโ€”like we were all witnessing something sacred.

Learning to Cook Khmer Food in Siem Reap

One of the best ways we connected with Cambodian culture was through food. We joined a cooking class that started with a trip to the local marketโ€”chaotic, colorful, and full of smells we couldnโ€™t name. Back in the outdoor kitchen, we made fish amok and green mango salad from scratch and sat down to enjoy it as the sun set behind the trees. It felt like a shared moment with the country itself.

Tuk-Tuk Rides Through Phnom Penh

It sounds simple, but tuk-tuk rides became a highlight. The breeze, the buzz of scooters, the view of golden palaces and neon-lit night marketsโ€”thereโ€™s something about gliding through Siem Reap in the open air that made us feel present and alive. One driver even played Cambodian pop music and laughed with us the entire ride.

Floating Through a Local Village on Tonle Sap Lake

We took a wooden boat through Kampong Phluk, one of the floating villages on Tonle Sap Lake. Kids waved from stilted houses, fishermen paddled by in longboats, and the sun shimmered off the water. It was peaceful and humblingโ€”offering a glimpse into a very different way of life.

Exploring a Temple in Total Silence

While Angkor Wat gets the spotlight, our quiet walk through Preah Khan was just as special. There were no crowds, no noiseโ€”just us, the sound of birds, and the soft creak of old stone. It felt like the temple was sharing its secrets one step at a time.

Final Thoughts

Cambodia gave us so many beautiful memoriesโ€”not because everything was perfect, but because it was real. Itโ€™s a country that surprises you, moves you, and welcomes you in ways you donโ€™t see coming. These were just a few of our favorite moments, but we hope they inspire you to create your own.

Our Travel Must-Haves

Universal Charging Adapter

A friend of ours told us about this universal adapter when we were in Greece, and our lives were forever changed. We used to have to carry multiple adapters but now only carry this one as it has an adapter for every country and supports wall and USB chargers!

On The Go Phone Charger

We purchased two of these because we loved it so much. We are constantly using our phones, taking photos and videos while we travel, and never want to run out of charge. These portable chargers keep our phones fully charged at all times!

Disposable Hotel Slippers

We love hotel slippers, and some hotels give them and some do not, so we like to be prepared. Plus, the best part is, we can throw them out when we leave the hotel and make our suitcase lighter instead of carrying traditional bedroom slippers that we use at home.

Travel Packing Bags

We love these compression cubes! We are notorious over-packers, and these packing cubes help us keep our suitcase organized and underweight!
