Some countries leave you with postcard-perfect photos. Cambodia left us with something deeperโquiet moments, powerful stories, and the kind of beauty that lingers long after you leave. While the temples were everything we imagined, it was the in-between experiencesโthe tuk-tuk rides, the shared meals, the smiles from strangersโthat truly stayed with us. Here are some of our favorite memories from Cambodia, and why they made such an impact.
Watching Sunrise at Angkor Wat
Itโs iconic for a reason. Standing in the stillness before dawn, watching the towers of Angkor Wat slowly appear in silhouette against the soft glow of the sky, felt almost spiritual. We were surrounded by people, but somehow it felt intimateโlike we were all witnessing something sacred.

Learning to Cook Khmer Food in Siem Reap
One of the best ways we connected with Cambodian culture was through food. We joined a cooking class that started with a trip to the local marketโchaotic, colorful, and full of smells we couldnโt name. Back in the outdoor kitchen, we made fish amok and green mango salad from scratch and sat down to enjoy it as the sun set behind the trees. It felt like a shared moment with the country itself.
Tuk-Tuk Rides Through Phnom Penh
It sounds simple, but tuk-tuk rides became a highlight. The breeze, the buzz of scooters, the view of golden palaces and neon-lit night marketsโthereโs something about gliding through Siem Reap in the open air that made us feel present and alive. One driver even played Cambodian pop music and laughed with us the entire ride.
Floating Through a Local Village on Tonle Sap Lake
We took a wooden boat through Kampong Phluk, one of the floating villages on Tonle Sap Lake. Kids waved from stilted houses, fishermen paddled by in longboats, and the sun shimmered off the water. It was peaceful and humblingโoffering a glimpse into a very different way of life.

Exploring a Temple in Total Silence
While Angkor Wat gets the spotlight, our quiet walk through Preah Khan was just as special. There were no crowds, no noiseโjust us, the sound of birds, and the soft creak of old stone. It felt like the temple was sharing its secrets one step at a time.
Final Thoughts
Cambodia gave us so many beautiful memoriesโnot because everything was perfect, but because it was real. Itโs a country that surprises you, moves you, and welcomes you in ways you donโt see coming. These were just a few of our favorite moments, but we hope they inspire you to create your own.
