Los Gigantes, Tenerife: 9 Reasons This Cliffside Town Totally Surprised Us

Los Gigantes might be famous for its massive cliffs — but there’s so much more to this Tenerife town. From peaceful vibes to unexpected activities, here are 9 reasons it completely surprised us (in the best way).

Los Gigantes, Tenerife: 9 Reasons This Cliffside Town Totally Surprised Us

We went to Los Gigantes expecting towering cliffs, a few boat tours, and not much else. What we found? A peaceful coastal town full of charm, great food, and incredible natural beauty. It’s easy to overlook Los Gigantes if you’re focused on Tenerife’s bigger names like Teide or Playa de las Américas — but this spot totally earned a place on our favorites list. Here are 9 reasons Los Gigantes, Tenerife surprised us — and why it might surprise you too.

1. The Cliffs Are More Jaw-Dropping in Person

Photos don’t do them justice. These volcanic walls rise up to 800 meters straight from the sea, and seeing them up close — especially by boat or kayak — is a total “wow” moment. They’re not just big, they’re breathtaking.

If you enjoy filming your travel experiences, a tiny wearable camera like this one is a great way to capture hands-free POV footage while walking through iconic locations.

2. It’s Way More Peaceful Than We Expected

Compared to busier resort areas, Los Gigantes feels like a calm retreat. There’s still tourism, but it’s quieter, slower-paced, and more relaxed. Perfect if you’re craving a scenic escape without the party crowds.

3. You Can See Whales and Dolphins Almost Every Day

The waters off Los Gigantes are a hotspot for resident pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins. We saw several during a short boat tour — no long trip or luck required! Many tours leave right from the local marina.

4. The Marina is a Hidden Gem

The small harbor is lined with cute cafés and tour booths — and it’s one of the prettiest spots in town. Great for sipping a cortado while watching boats come and go, or booking a quick kayak or sailing trip.

Because sightseeing often means lots of photos and videos, having a reliable travel backpack like this one makes it easy to carry your camera gear and accessories.

5. Playa de los Guios is Tiny but Scenic

It’s not the biggest beach, but the black sand and dramatic cliff backdrop make Playa de los Guios one of the most photogenic on the island. Come in the morning for fewer people and soft light on the rocks.

6. The Food Scene is Better Than Expected

We found fantastic seafood and local eats here, especially along the marina. Try El Ancla for paella or Aqua Restaurant for modern Canarian cuisine with a view. Bonus: prices are generally lower than in southern resorts.

7. It’s a Great Base for Exploring the West Coast

From Los Gigantes, it’s easy to drive to Masca, Garachico, or even Teide National Park. You get the best of both worlds: chill seaside vibes with access to dramatic mountain adventures.

8. Sunset Watching is Practically a Sport Here

With cliffs facing west and unobstructed ocean views, Los Gigantes serves up some of the best sunsets in Tenerife. Find a high-up terrace or stroll the promenade — the golden light on the cliffs is unreal.

9. It Feels Like a Secret (But Not for Long)

Despite its beauty, Los Gigantes still flies under the radar for many visitors. It feels like one of those “I can’t believe this isn’t more crowded” kind of places — but that’s also what makes it so special.

For travelers who want high-quality photos and videos during their trip, a lightweight mirrorless camera like this one is a popular choice among content creators and travel photographers.

Why Los Gigantes is Worth a Visit

Los Gigantes surprised us in all the right ways. It’s more than just a photo stop — it’s a peaceful, picturesque town with real personality and natural wow-factor. If you’re planning a Tenerife itinerary, don’t skip this cliffside gem.

Our Travel Must-Haves

Universal Charging Adapter

A friend of ours told us about this universal adapter when we were in Greece, and our lives were forever changed. We used to have to carry multiple adapters but now only carry this one as it has an adapter for every country and supports wall and USB chargers!

On The Go Phone Charger

We purchased two of these because we loved it so much. We are constantly using our phones, taking photos and videos while we travel, and never want to run out of charge. These portable chargers keep our phones fully charged at all times!

Disposable Hotel Slippers

We love hotel slippers, and some hotels give them and some do not, so we like to be prepared. Plus, the best part is, we can throw them out when we leave the hotel and make our suitcase lighter instead of carrying traditional bedroom slippers that we use at home.

Travel Packing Bags

We love these compression cubes! We are notorious over-packers, and these packing cubes help us keep our suitcase organized and underweight!
