With so many Tenerife beaches to choose from, we wanted to find out which ones were actually worth the hype — and which ones left us feeling underwhelmed. So we packed our sunscreen, hit the road, and visited eight popular beaches across the island. Some blew us away, others… not so much. Here’s our totally honest ranking of 8 Tenerife beaches from favorite to forgettable.
🥇 1. Playa de Las Teresitas (Santa Cruz)
Why It’s #1: Golden sand, calm waters, and a local vibe just 10 minutes from Santa Cruz. It’s family-friendly, photogenic, and feels tropical thanks to its imported Saharan sand and palm trees.
Downside: Can get crowded on weekends.
🥈 2. Playa del Duque (Costa Adeje)
Why It’s Great: This beach feels upscale and clean, with loungers, umbrellas, and chic beach clubs nearby. The water is crystal-clear and it’s perfect for relaxing with a drink in hand.
Downside: A little pricier than other beaches.
🥉 3. Playa del Camisón (Playa de las Américas)
Why We Loved It: It’s small, central, and super swimmable. Lots of cafés nearby and a quieter vibe than its Playa de las Américas neighbors.
Downside: Limited space — arrive early to claim a good spot.

4. Playa de Abama (Guía de Isora)
Why It’s Beautiful: A secluded cove with turquoise water and a peaceful atmosphere. Feels like a secret even though it’s technically part of a resort.
Downside: A bit tricky to access — involves stairs or a steep trail.
5. Playa Jardín (Puerto de la Cruz)
Why It’s Unique: Designed by a local artist with lush gardens, this black-sand beach offers a different kind of beauty. Great for walks and photos.
Downside: Stronger currents — not ideal for swimming.
6. Playa de La Tejita (El Médano)
Why It’s Worth a Visit: It’s long, wild, and backed by the stunning Montaña Roja. Great for a more natural, off-the-grid beach day.
Downside: Often windy, and no shade or services nearby.
7. Playa de los Guios (Los Gigantes)
Why It’s Scenic: You’re literally at the foot of the famous cliffs, and it’s a great photo spot.
Downside: Small beach with coarse sand, and not super inviting for a full day’s stay.
🚫 8. Playa de las Américas (Main Strip)
Why We’d Skip It: Crowded, loud, and overly touristy. Feels more like a party zone than a relaxing beach. Fine for a quick dip, but not our favorite.
Upside: It’s central — if you’re already in the area, it’s there.
