The Packing Struggle Is Real
Let’s be honest—how many times have you arrived at your destination only to realize you forgot something crucial? Whether it’s a phone charger, sunscreen, or that perfect dress for vacation photos, forgetting even one item can throw off your whole trip. After our trip to Greece (luggage featured in the photo) we decided we needed to change how we packed. That’s exactly why we created Our Travel Packing Planner—a go-to checklist we now use for every single trip.
At this point, it’s practically part of the family.
We’ve had it in so many formats—scribbled on a piece of paper, saved in Notion, tucked away in a Google Doc, and now, it’s a simple note on our phones that we just duplicate before every trip. No matter where we go (from a tropical beach escape to a chilly European getaway), we know exactly what to pack and it only takes us less than 1 hour! And trust us, it’s a game-changer!
Why You Need a Packing List
Having a customized packing list isn’t just for neat freaks (though, shoutout to Marva for her perfectly folded pieces of clothes every single time). It’s for every traveler who wants to:
✅ Avoid last-minute panic – No more frantic shopping at overpriced airport stores for things you forgot.
✅ Save space – Overpacking is the enemy of stress-free travel! A good list helps you pack smart.
✅ Feel prepared for anything – Whether it’s an unexpected dinner invite or an impromptu hike, the right list ensures you’re ready.
✅ Streamline the process – The less time spent thinking about what to pack, the more time spent enjoying the trip.
How to Create Your Own Packing List
Our template has been tweaked and refined for our travel style, but your list should be unique to you! Here’s how to create your own ultimate packing list:
1. Start with the Essentials
Every trip requires the basics: passport, wallet, phone, chargers, toiletries. Write these down first—they’re the non-negotiables.
2. Consider Your Destination
Packing for Bali? You’ll need swimsuits, light dresses, and sandals. Heading to Iceland? Layers, waterproof gear, and thermal socks are your best friends. Tailor your list to your specific location.
3. Break It Down by Category
We organize our list into categories like:
- Basics (Travel bag, passport, credit cards, etc.)
- Tech (Phone, chargers, camera gear)
- Clothing (Outbound outfit, photo-worthy outfits, lounge wear, activewear, etc.)
- Shoes & Accessories
- Toiletries & Makeup (Only the essentials like foundation, concelear, blush, and setting spray)
- Medicine & Health Essentials ( EpiPens because Ashleigh’s allergic to nuts and lots of Advil for that time of the month)
- Snacks (because duh!)
This makes it easier to check off items as we pack and ensure nothing gets left behind.
4. Customize for Each Trip
While our master list stays the same, we tweak it for each trip. Beach vacation? Swap out the heavy boots for flip-flops. Business trip? Add in professional outfits. Adjust as needed!
5. Check It Twice
Before we zip up our suitcases, we always do one final run-through. It’s saved us more times than we can count!
Final Thoughts: Save Yourself the Stress
Having a go-to packing list has completely transformed how we prepare for trips. No more second-guessing or last-minute Mall runs. Just smooth, stress-free packing that lets us focus on what truly matters—the adventure ahead!
