Spending 12 Hours in Dubai Airport—Here’s What You Should (and Shouldn’t) Do For Your Dubai Airport Layover

One Layover, Many Lessons

You may not have planned to spend 12 hours in Dubai Airport—but flight schedules may have other ideas. Thankfully, Dubai International Airport (DXB) is more like a mini city than a traditional airport. Uncover some hidden gems, and figure out what really helps pass the time.

Get To Know The Traveling Taylors!

Here’s your go-to guide for making the most of long hours at DXB.

Hour 1–2: Arrival, Immigration & Terminal Shuffle

If you fly Emirates, you’ll land in Terminal 3 , which is modern and massive. Immigration runs smoothly but is strict—no phones, no filming, and a lot of walking.

What To Do:
✅ Downloaded the DXB app ahead of time
✅ Packed a change of clothes and basic toiletries in our carry-on

✅ Make sure to check your terminal for your connecting flight. Traveling between terminals will be at least 30 minutes.

Hour 3–4: Lounge Life

It’s a long walk to the lounges, but it’s worth it. The Marhaba Lounge (Priority Pass entry) is a good stop. Satiate your appetite before your flight. Help yourself to the hot and cold cuisine in the buffet area, along with a range of beverages. Rejuvenate on the road with a hot shower in the lounge. Don’t miss a thing with the complimentary Wi-Fi in the fully equipped Business Center.has with fresh fruit, strong coffee, and comfy chairs.

Even if you don’t have Priority Pass, pay for a day pass, it’s absolutely worth it. Also DBX has nap pods, but you should book early because they fill up fast.

Hour 5–6: Shopping + Mini Culture Shock

Once you’ve gotten refreshed at the lounge, hit Dubai Duty Free and wander into a whirlwind of gold, gadgets, and gourmet snacks. Prices are mixed—some great deals, some better skipped.

Don’t Miss:
🛍 Camel milk chocolate, saffron kits, and Emirati perfumes
💡 The Zen garden near Gate B7—it’s a peaceful oasis!

Hour 7–8: Walk, Stretch, Repeat

If jet lag is creeping in, you can find a quiet prayer room, clean showers in the G-Force gym, and a hidden kids’ play area.

Make sure you
✅ Pack collapsible water bottles and refill at the hydration stations
✅ Do laps through the terminal to fight off travel fatigue

✅Use the gym for a small fee

Hour 9–10: Real Food (Finally)

Skip the fast food and grab a booth at Tranzeet DXB, a local-meets-global café. The lamb shawarma? So good.

Other Solid Options:

  • Treehouse Juicery for smoothies
  • Giraffe Stop for global comfort food
  • The Kitchen by Wolfgang Puck (Terminal 1)

Hour 11–12: Recharge, Regret Nothing

Spend your final hour near your gate, recharging devices and yourselves. Thanks to DXB’s free Wi-Fi, get caught up on emails and share your favorite finds on social media.

Long Layovers Don’t Have to Suck

Dubai Airport is better than most cities when it comes to amenities, comfort, and things to do. With a little planning (and a lot of walking), your 12-hour layover will turn out way better than expected.
